Hiking - Walking: Around Felixstowe Wind Direction: NE Wind Stength: Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: Sunny and hot :) Max Speed: Distance Covered: 4 miles (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
Thursday 15th June - walk ***** Felixstowe Ferry - sunny and hot.
After two pretty full-on windsurf sessions where I foiled nearly 70 miles
so I had a day off from sailing so Mag and I decided on an early morning
walk of over 4 miles, my poor old knees/legs are really suffering now! The
heatwave continues so we decided to get out early packing our breakfast and
driving down to Felixstowe Ferry parking near the Martello tower at 8 in
glorious sunshine. We walk over to the River Deben with the tide whizzing
in really fast, it was nice to see a few yachts slowly heading out with the
bright coloured valerian looking stunning as ever. Then through the boat
yard and out onto the Deben path, really quiet too with lots of yellow rape
flowers that have seeded from the surrounding fields, loads of birds too,
reed buntings, warblers, swans, sky larks plus maybe a marsh harrier and
hobby with a lot of dragon fly?s too. We ambled along to our breakfast
spot, the picnic benches by the water ski jetty and enjoyed a peaceful time
by the river before returning along the lower path bird spotting. We were
quite pleased to see the van after a long walk and then home to do my
exercises in the hot back garden before our lovely neighbours came for an
afternoon chat with cake:)
